One of our favorite children’s books is called Cranberry Thanksgiving. It is the story of an old New England fisherman that is invited to a little girl’s house for Thanksgiving. The little girl, Maggie, lives with her grandmother. Neither family has much money, but they are willing to Read more »

French toast is an easy kid recipe that we make at least once or twice a month. In our family we like to have breakfast at different times of the day sometimes. We only do it about once a week or so, but Read more »

When you’re looking for easy kid recipes, one ingredient that always comes to mind is eggs. When my children are cooking, eggs are almost always involved.
Eggs are easy to keep on hand, easy to mix, and easy to cook. They cook very quickly, so your child doesn’t have to stand around and stir a pot forever just waiting for somthing to thicken. As much as eggs have gotten criticized for being higher in cholesterol, Read more »

When thinking about easy kid recipes, finger sandwiches come to mind. Who doesn’t like a fun way to eat fancy? Maybe my kids are wierd, but they love fancy party things.

I’ve been looking over cookbooks for kids, so Kitchen For Kids cookbook by Jennifer Low caught my attention. The subtitle states “100 amazing recipes your children can really make.” The book uses no sharp knives, no stove-top cooking, and kid-tested recipes.
Although I can appreciate the author’s sentiments at the beginning of the book, Read more »

Here’s another yummy recipe for you. When my family smells this
meal in the oven they longingly ask, “Are we having baked chicken?”
I say “yes” and they have a big smile on their face. What more

Here’s my recipe for Taco Seasoning mix. I’ve always been leery of all the chemicals in the mixes you find in the store. Even though the envelopes aren’t that expensive, the cost still adds up. This mix is very cheap to make especially if you can buy the spices in bulk from a bulk food store. Read more »

Here’s another cookbook from Annabel Karmel called The Toddler Cookbook also published by DK. Although not as fun and well laid out as the Mom and Me Cookbook, this is still at least a 4 star in my book.
The book begins with an introduction of the author complete with Read more »

These cookbook reviews have been fun. The one I looked at today was Mom and Me Cookbook by Annabel Karmel. The subtitle states “Have Fun in the Kitchen!” This one is also published by DK (Dorling Kindersley).
I’m finding that DK seems to be my favorite kid cookbook publisher. Pretty much any book of theirs that I review I like. This one is no different. With lots of pictures and a good variety of recipes, Read more »

Some of the best kid cookbooks are not cookbooks at all, but picture books. Have you ever read a great picture book to your child and found a recipe for the item in the book list in the back? What’s the first thing your child wants to do when they are done reading that book with you? Read more »

Here’s the egg salad recipe I promised in my last post. We use it on regular bread or on finger sandwiches. It’s fun to put this on different kinds of bread and crackers but works just as well on normal bread. If you are trying to avoid lunch meat and the chemicals that are in it, this is a welcome alternative. Read more »

With all the cooking we do at our house, I thought it was time to do some kid cookbook reviews. We don’t really use them that much though. My children either like to use my recipes or they like to create their own dishes. It’s much more fun to add some spices and look like a real chef than to measure everything out with a measuring spoon and cup. You can tell, if you’ve cooked with your children very much, if one of your recipes will be something they can handle.
We have gotten a few cookbooks out of the library like Read more »

If you are wanting your children to start cooking with you or on their own, you have probably asked this question many times – Can my kid make this recipe? If your child has shown that they can stir and mix and season along with you, then you can start looking for recipes they can make on their own.
I suggest your child first work with you for a while on these tasks: Read more »
