Christmas Giving
You may think it’s too late for Christmas giving if you haven’t done something yet. The truth is that families that had needs before Christmas, will still have them after Christmas. Everyone needs to eat. Giving food is a great way to help people.
If your children see you giving to others, they will more than likely be giving people themselves. They will follow your lead. Do your children see you giving extra food to those in need, taking meals to people that are struggling, making extra food when you go to a potluck, or making a special treat for someone that is down?
We can learn a lot from our children too. Sometimes I have seen my children do something for someone or give something to someone and I wonder whether I would have been willing to do that. They have a way of convicting you without saying anything. If you can’t think of a way to give to others, just ask your children for ideas.
This year I thought we had nothing to give because we have been struggling financially. I became aware of a family in our area with small children that wasn’t able to give them any toys for Christmas. Having teenage girls, we had lots of dolls and toys that haven’t been played with for a long time. After hearing of the need, my children were more than willing to give their toys so that some other little children could have a good Christmas.
Just because it’s almost Christmas or just because you don’t think you have anything to give, doesn’t mean some Christmas giving can’t happen at your house. You can give what you don’t use anymore or you can give of yourself. You can take your family and sing at a nursing, bake cookies for someone, help someone that is disabled decorate their house, pick up litter, take a meal to someone who is sad or lonely, or any host of other ideas.
If you’re willing to give, just look around for your opportunities. The ideas and opportunities will come to you whether it be through someone else or even through your children. Watch out for a blessing!
