Easy Kid Recipe – French Toast
French toast is an easy kid recipe that we make at least once or twice a month. In our family we like to have breakfast at different times of the day sometimes. We only do it about once a week or so, but it’s fun to change things up sometimes.
Kids love mixing up the egg mixture and then dipping the bread in it. The transfer to the pan can be interesting sometimes, but that’s what dishcloths are for I guess
We use about 1 egg for 2 pieces of bread. If you want to make 4 pieces of french toast you will probably need 2 eggs. Start with a bowl and a fork. Make sure the bowl is big enough for a piece of bread to lay in. Crack and break 2 eggs into your bowl (if you want to make 4 pieces of french toast). Kids love to crack the eggs too. We like to add about 1 T milk or water and even a little cinnamon and vanilla if we have them. Whip this mixture with your fork.
Before you put your bread in the egg mixture, make sure you have started heating your pan and that you have added some oil or butter. A hot pan will give you the best results with your french toast.
Now take a piece of bread. You can use any variety you like. Probably pumpernickel and rye with seeds wouldn’t work, but any other bread should probably taste fine. Lay the bread in the egg mixture and flip it over. Then immediately put the bread in your hot pan. You can do another piece of bread if you have room in the pan.
I would suggest NOT letting the bread sit in the egg mixture for more than a few seconds because it tends to REALLY soak up the liquid. Then you end up having to cook your french toast forEVER. Sometimes it doesn’t even get cooked in the middle! Yuck!
After cooking your french toast on one side for about 3 minutes you can flip it over and cook it on the other side too. We like to top ours with a variety of toppings – peanut butter, applesauce, jelly, and, of course, syrup.
I hope you like this easy kid recipe. Look for more to come or send me some of your favorites and I will include them here.
