Easy Kid Recipes – Eggs

When you’re looking for easy kid recipes, one ingredient that always comes to mind is eggs. When my children are cooking, eggs are almost always involved.

Eggs are easy to keep on hand, easy to mix, and easy to cook. They cook very quickly, so your child doesn’t have to stand around and stir a pot forever just waiting for somthing to thicken. As much as eggs have gotten criticized for being higher in cholesterol, they are actually very good for you. They have protein, vitamins and minerals.

If you get farm raised eggs, you will get even more nutritional value. Store-bought egss don’t have as many of the beneficial Omega 6 oils as farm eggs.

The key, for us, to getting good eggs is having a hot pan and not turning the egg over too soon. We use cast iron skillets so it takes a little longer for them to get hot, but they stay hot longer. Once your pan is hot you can put a little bit of butter or coconut oil in the pan. Once that is melted, you can either crack your egg and put it in whole or mix it with milk for scrambled eggs or french toast.

For sunny side up or over easy/hard eggs, make sure that the egg has cooked long enough on the first side. If you are having a hard time getting the egg off the bottom of the pan, it’s probably not time to turn it over yet. The second side will cook faster than the first. Once the egg turns over easily, you can flip it and get ready to eat it soon.

Children love seasoning dishes. For scrambled eggs, your child can add salt and pepper and even some cinnamon. You’ll be surprised how quickly they learn how much to put in their dish. After having to eat extremely salted and peppered eggs a couple of times, they will begin to understand the fine art of seasoning a dish.

My children never seem to tire of this easy kid recipe. Eggs are very often at least part of every lunch that they make.
