Kid Cookbook Review
I thought it was time to do another kid cookbook review. There are 2 books that I will tell you about this time.
The first cookbook is called Pillsbury Kids Cookbook. My children were very interested in the large pictures of the finished products. They marked off some pages but have not made any of the recipes. You see a recipe on the left side of the page and a picture of the meal/dish on the other side of the page. Although the pictures look very appealing, I don’t feel that this cookbook is very kid friendly. The recipes and instructions are all written in the same format and typeset as adult recipe books. In my opinion, children need lots of how-to pictures with simple instructions under each picture. This book gets about a 6 in my book.
The next kid cookbook that I want to review is the Dorling Kindersley Kid’s Fun & Healthy Cookbook. My copy is hardcover with a dust jacket. The front cover shows a child kneading some dough. The book is well organized and even begins with some nutrition facts at the beginning. The first few pages of the book devote 2 full pages to the different food groups with lots of pictures and examples of each. Then the book is divided into Breakfasts, Light Meals, Main Meals, Desserts and Baking. Each recipe takes up a double page. You get a nice large picture of the finished meal or recipe but you also get at least 5 pictures showing the steps you need to take to make the recipe. You get a list of ingredients (even some pictures there too) and a list of the equipment you need. Each page also has some food facts and little tips on how you can add or change the recipe a bit. There is also a “Did you know?” fact on each page relating to the recipe on the page.
This is a great book for kids and adults. There are lots of great pictures, recipes and information. This one gets a 9.5 in my book.
That’s all for this kid cookbook review. Let me know if there are any kid cookbooks that you have found that you like.
