Kids Cooking Challenge
Have you ever watched Kids Cooking Challenge on the Food Network? It’s not on there is it? I think it would be a great idea. My children love watching this show and for the past two weeks, for lunch, my 13 year old daughter and 7 year old son have declared a “Cooking Challenge” all on their own. All they have to say is “cooking challenge” and both of them rush to the kitchen. They set the timer and say that they have to make a side dish, dessert and two main courses. The food is very small and arranged on their plates in a fancy way just like on TV.
There is all kinds of activity in the kitchen during this 30 minutes. They prefer I not be in there which is fine with me! The dishes usually involve some kind of eggs and dessert often involves ice cream of some sort. When they have completed their cooking challenge they each sit down at the table with their plates in front of them.
This is were it gets really funny. Have you ever watched Dancing With the Stars? After the teams dance they are judged by the 3 judges there. They all have accents.
My children judge each others dishes in the same way and with the same accents that they do on Dancing with the Stars. It’s hilarious. “Carrie Ann Inaba – 7.” “Len Goodman – 8.” “Bruno Tonioli – 8.” Those are the scores they usually give each other. The second person giving the other person their scores has the advantage and sometimes gives the other person one point less than they got so they can declare themselves the winner. I usually encourage them to end in a tie.
I just think it is so funny that they have combined both shows and use the accents and terminology from both shows. My son constantly says, “We’ll be right back on Food Network” while they are cooking.
Cooking can be fun. My children have obviously added their own touch here with this kids cooking challenge. I encourage you to be creative in your cooking with and for your children. You’re welcome to share your stories here….
