Lunch for Children
These ideas of lunch for children probably work best if you are having lunch at home with your kids, but these could be adapted to packing a lunch for your kids at school. You can make these or you can work with your children until they are able to make lunch for themselves and even you. Pretty soon you won’t have to cook at all because they will be having all the fun
Pita pizza – Take a piece of pita bread and top it with salsa, pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce. Add your favorite pizza toppings along with some shredded mozerella cheese. Pop it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese starts to brown. You have your very own personal pizza in just a few minutes.
Crackers, meat and cheese – It’s fun to get various crackers (if you can) and cut squares or circles of lunchmeat and cheese and let your children make their own mini sandwiches. Get whole grain crackers to make this meal a little more healhty.
French toast – My children love to make this. We just crack an egg in a square dish and add about a tablespoon of water or milk along with a dash of vanilla and cinnamon. Dip a piece of bread in this mixture and coat on both sides. Cook in a heated and buttered pan on both sides and you have a nice, rather healthy meal as long as you use a good quality bread.
Quesadillas – Take a tortilla or burritto shell and fill one half with cheese in a heated, buttered pan. Fold the other half of the tortilla over so you have a half tortilla shape in your pan. Heat for a few minutes and then flip and heat until all the cheese has melted. You can add any leftover meat, salsa, mushrooms, vegetables, or anything you can think of to add some variety to this meal.
Be sure to include your children in making these meals. They will really enjoy creating these meals and will be getting training on how to cook without even knowing it.
