Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe
Here’s my recipe for Taco Seasoning mix. I’ve always been leery of all the chemicals in the mixes you find in the store. Even though the envelopes aren’t that expensive, the cost still adds up. This mix is very cheap to make especially if you can buy the spices in bulk from a bulk food store.
We have a little Mennonite bulk foods store about 15 minutes away from where we live. They have been expanding their building over the last several years to the point that they now have a HUGE building. Buying food in bulk is becoming more and more popular I guess. I think the spices are much more potent and fresh when you buy in bulk than if you buy those little jars in the grocery store that might have been sitting there for years!
I just mix it up all the ingredients in a jar and stir. Then I always have it on hand when I need it. I just shake it up a little before I open it up to mix up the spices.
Plus it doesn’t have MSG or any other funky chemicals in it like the envelope mixes. If you are watching your sugar or sodium content, you can eliminate the sugar and salt if you like.
Taco Seasoning
1/4 c chili powder
2 T each – cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika
1 T sugar
1 T salt
I use this when making tacos, chicken burritos, and any kind of skillet taco meal. You can use as much or as little as you want depending on your taste. I would say a tablespoon would season an entire dish, but you could certainly add more for an extra zing.
Enjoy!
